braun silk epil 7 review

I've wanted to get an epilator for a while.  Shaving never lasts long enough for me, and constantly worrying about stubble and prickliness is no fun at all.

I finally picked one up yesterday at Target for $99.99.  This one is the Braun Silk Epil 7181 (pictured). It's allegedly for legs only and the package comes with a pack of Olay pre-epilation wipes, an additional cap attachment, a cleaning brush, and a carrying pouch.  The one I originally picked up actually had a defective charger, so I exchanged it today.

The device has two speed settings and you turn the circular dial clockwise to turn it on.  It is cordless, but you cannot use it while it's charging so that you are not accidentally electrocuted while using it in water.  The package says that the battery is good for up to 40 minutes, but I have yet to test this claim.

I tested it both in the shower and out of the shower and I found that it seemed to work better in dry conditions.  However, it does hurt more.  I've read a lot of reviews for this product.  Some people claimed to be in excruciating pain, while some said it didn't hurt at all.  A decent majority said that the pain would decrease with usage.

For me, it barely hurt, and I wouldn't consider myself to have a high pain threshold.  The massaging rollers may have helped with the pain.

Occasionally it did sting slightly (depending on the area), but the pain wasn't significant, and it's to be expected since you are basically tweezing the hair.   I tested it out on my underarms as well (even though I don't think you're supposed to) and it worked pretty well without much pain.

Until I can afford laser treatments I'll be sticking to this device.

Positives
+ Aesthetically pleasing design.
+ Can be used in the shower.
+ Decent battery life.
+ Device has a light.

Negatives
- The device is a little heavy.
- Epilating will take significantly longer than shaving.
- The device is noisy.
